DISCOVERING WHO WE ARE

The big question that philosophers, theologians, scientists, and countless other people have tried to answer throughout history is the big "Who Am I?" At the Temple of Delphi in Greece, there was a maxim that was written that said, "Know ThySelf". All of this ties in with an even bigger question, "Why Am I Here?" And yet, all three of these questions interwine - each of them has a dependency on the other. If you figure out who you are, then chances you will know yourself, and if you know who you are and yourself, then probably know why you are here as well.

The ultimate "knowing" is the big wave of awakening that is happening on this planet right now. Much of it I see happening through people waking up to the sense that there is more to what they are doing, a restless feeling of unfulfillment, a search for greater meaning in their lives, and even discovering their capacities and insights into themselves through tragedy and chaos.

So how do you figure it who you really are ultimately? A recent quote came across my desk that reminded me that we were in fact "spiritual beings having a human experience", not human beings having a spiritual experience as many tend to see it. Think about that for a moment. We are spiritual (aka spirit) beings having a human experience. In other words, we are spirit, first and foremost, wearing these human cloaks and learning or experiencing what it is like to be human. Reminds of me Harry Potter and the Cloak of Invisibility, except in reverse.

Aside from genetics and memetics, there are many aspects of life that we can look to to help us discover ourselves. Ask yourself the following questions:

1. What I do value? Values are things that are most important to us in life.

2. What are my needs? Most of us walk around on this planet with unmet needs. These are necessary for our general functioning and well-being.

3. What are my feelings? Feelings and emotions work through the heart and how you feel about situations, people, or things is a clue to where you are at.

4. What are my paradigms? What set of structures or belief systems do you operate from? And how these paradigms serving you in your life? It's like functioning from your personal operating system. One way to know yourself or at least where you are now, is to get to know the intricacies of your operating system.

5. What in life matters to me? In other words, what gives you meaning is also a clue in knowing who you are, or at the very least, let you know if it's working or not for you.

6. What is my potential? You have the capacity for just about anything, and I'm not talking about being Michael Jordan unless you actually are him. Your potential is actually the capacity that you have to learn about yourself.

The bottom line is that more you know who you are, the easier it is to actually BE the Be-ing, the easier it will be to respond instead of react to life, you will have more dimension and positive experience in your life, and above all, you will discover how you fit into the grand scheme called life and why you are here in the first place.

So be all you can be - and how much that really is, is for you to discover!

Dear Sara,

Thanks for your question. Right now, there are a number of camps springing up all over North America that cater to what I call the SuperSensitives: Indigos, Crystals, parents, families, etc. A good place to start looking would be http://www.campindigo.org. However, these groups have basically been formed by people just like yourself who have felt the need to connect with others of like mind and energy. I have seen many people who have also formed their own businesses or groups that are geared to specific activities that cater to Indigo/Crystals, such as YogaKids in California and ReikiKids here on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. All it takes to set something up however are some well-intentioned folks with a similar focus, lots of love, an abundance of ideas and creative energy, great space, and time!
